Dynamics and diffusion of small scale magnetic elements in the lower solar atmosphere

High resolution observations and theoretical modelling have shown that small scale magnetic flux concentrations, the so called magnetic elements (MEs) or magnetic bright points (MBPs), represent a relevant part of the magnetic flux in the quiet Sun lower solar atmosphere. The study of the dynamics and diffusion properties of MEs have gained considerable interest over the last few years, as they are closely connected to sub-photospheric turbulent convection, energy release processes in the solar atmosphere, dynamo effect. Recent results on ME dynamics and diffusion, obtained from high resolution observations and numerical simulations, will be reviewed and their implications will be discussed.
